IGP Disu To Decorate Newly Promoted AIGs, CPs Today

Senior officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) are set to be decorated on Monday following their recent promotions, with newly elevated Assistant Inspectors General and Commissioners of Police expected to formally assume their ranks.

The decoration ceremony, to be presided over by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, comes amid ongoing internal reshuffles across key commands and units of the force.

The development is part of broader efforts by the police leadership to reposition the force through strategic deployments and promotions.

Sources within the force confirmed to Sahara Reporters that the exercise would usher in new leadership across several critical formations nationwide.

Amid the reshuffle, a newly promoted Assistant Inspector General of Police, Moshood Jimoh, who currently serves as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, is reportedly seeking to retain a key role within the state.

According to sources, Jimoh is lobbying for deployment either as head of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos Island, or the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department Annex in Alagbon.

A police source said, “The new AIGs and CPs are set to be decorated today (Monday). Meanwhile, Lagos CP Moshood Jimoh is intensifying his lobby to remain in Lagos, either to head Zone 2 Command or the FCIID Alagbon.”

The Zone 2 Command supervises police operations in Lagos and Ogun states, while the FCIID Alagbon office serves as a major investigative hub handling high-profile criminal cases.

Sources indicated that Jimoh’s earlier attempt to head the Zone 2 Command had not succeeded, but he is said to have renewed efforts to secure the position.

The Police Service Commission recently approved the promotion of Jimoh alongside 12 other Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General.

The promotions followed written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Tijani Fatai, a Lagos-born police officer currently serving as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, has been identified as a possible replacement for Jimoh as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

Sources noted that Fatai is believed to have the backing of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Jimoh assumed office as the 41st Commissioner of Police in Lagos State in February 2025, succeeding Olanrewaju Ishola, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The latest promotions are part of a broader process that included a promotion examination and interactive session held on March 10, 2026, at the Police Service Commission headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, for senior officers aspiring to the rank of AIG.
