2027: ‘Jonathan Will Not Make Mistake Of Contesting For Presidency’ – Former Lawmaker, Sunny-Goli
by Rachel Okporu Fadoju · Naija NewsFormer member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Israel Sunny-Goli, has opined that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will not make the mistake of contesting the 2027 presidential elections as speculated by political jobbers.
Naija News reports that there have been speculations about Jonathan returning to active politics in 2027 to contest for the presidency.
While some political elites believe it will be difficult to defeat President Bola Tinubu, others argue that it would be unconstitutional for Jonathan to contest and win the 2027 presidential election.
Some legal practitioners have also stated that Jonathan has already served 6 years in office, arguing that if he wins in 2027 and serves for 4 years, that will total 10 years in office, which is contrary to the 8 years fixed in the constitution.
However, Sunny-Goli, while responding to questions during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, advised Jonathan to shelve any ambition of contesting the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, the odds are against Jonathan, adding that he has not made a move since his exit from the presidency in 2015 to show he is still an active politician in this country.
He said, “I think Jonathan will take this in good faith because he’s a good man and wants the progress of the state. People have been speculating about him contesting for the next elections. I believe Jonathan will not make the mistake of contesting for the 2027 elections as speculated by political jobbers, because the odds are against him.
“He has not made a move after his exit from the presidency to show that he’s still a practical politician or active politician in this country.”
