PDP Convention Dissolves Party Structures In Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Rivers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved all its structures in five states, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers — following a motion moved at the party’s national convention in Ibadan on Saturday.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who tabled the motion, said the step was necessary to validate executives elected through congresses conducted nationwide between 2024 and 2025.

While addressing delegates at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Makinde said the series of congresses produced officers at ward, local government, state and zonal levels, including national ex-officio members.

According to him, the exercises were “peaceful and largely compliant with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution and the party’s internal rules.”

He added that the party’s National Executive Committee and National Working Committee had already endorsed the congress results and the officials elected across the country.

Makinde announced that despite the congresses, the party had resolved to dismantle all structures in the five affected states.

He declared, “In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, the convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government and state levels.”

He added that the convention had authorised the publication of the decision as “formal notice to the public.”

The motion received immediate backing at the convention ground, with Daniel Okechukwu, the party’s National Auditor and a member of the NWC, seconding it.
