Michelle Obama Says Rob Reiner Was ‘Not Deranged,’ No Matter What Trump Claims

by · VULTURE

Michelle Obama defended her late friends Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner from President Donald Trump’s attacks in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on December 15. “Unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever wanna know,” Obama said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “They are not deranged or crazed; what they have always been are passionate people. In a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on, they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family and they cared about this country and they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth. I do know them.” She and husband Barack were even supposed to see the couple on the night were killed, Obama revealed to Kimmel. Police say the Reiners’ 32-year-old son, Nick, is “responsible” for their deaths.

Obama’s defense of the couple follows multiple Truth Social posts by Trump, claiming that Reiner died “due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.” Reiner knew the Obamas through his political activism and fiercely opposed Trump, once calling him “mentally unfit” for office.

Earlier in the episode, Kimmel also addressed Trump’s comments. “It’s so hateful and vile,” Kimmel said. “When I first saw it, I thought it was fake. My wife showed it to me this morning. I was like, ‘Even for him, that seemed like too much.’ But nothing is ever too much for him.”
