Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 59th DGs and IGs conference at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Friday in the presence of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

A total of 13 senior police officials were awarded President’s Police Medal at the programme.

Shah and Doval arrived in the afternoon to attend the 3-day pan-India event. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi along with Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram received Shah at the airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to reach here by 4.30 pm but he will attend the conference from Saturday.

During the event, discussions will be held on the formulation and sharing of professional practices and processes in tackling challenges related to crime control and law and order management, besides internal security threats.

Apart from discussion on security matters, some unique features – Yoga sessions, business sessions, break-out sessions and thematic dining tables – have been added to the conference.

More than 70 platoons of police force and anti-terror agencies have been deployed to guard Bhubaneswar for three days amid threats from Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun to disrupt the meet. Several stretches in the city have also be declared no drone/flying zones.
