Baby dies after being 'thrown from hotel window by American tourist' in Paris
by Fiona Leishman · Irish MirrorA newborn baby has tragically died after allegedly being thrown from a hotel room window by an 18 year old American tourist, thought to be the infant's mother. The shocking incident was reported around 6am this morning at the Ibis Style hotel in Paris' 20th arrondissement on rue des Réglises.
It is suspected that the young woman hurled the baby from the second-floor window of her hotel room.
Eyewitnesses who heard screams quickly alerted authorities, leading to emergency services rushing to the scene. The baby was immediately transported to the Robert-Debré hospital in the 19th arrondissement.
A young woman, presumed to be the child's mother, was also taken to the hospital.
Local media reports suggest she was part of a group of US students on a study trip to Paris. Witnesses allege that the baby was thrown from the window "with the umbilical cord" still attached, reports the Mirror.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the infant did not survive his injuries and passed away, as confirmed by the Paris prosecutor's office to Le Parisien.
A magistrate from the Paris public prosecutor's office, along with officers from the minor protection brigade (BPM) of the Paris judicial police, attended the scene, according to a police source. The prosecutor's office has confirmed that an investigation for "homicide of a minor under 15" has been launched.
The young woman, described by the prosecution as "part of a group of young adults travelling in Europe", was rushed to hospital where she is scheduled for surgery following recent childbirth. The Paris prosecutor's office chimed in stating: "She was also taken into custody on site. The possibility of a denial of pregnancy is being considered."
A source close to the investigation confided in Paris Match, revealing that "the investigation is underway and the precise circumstances of this tragedy remain to be established... We do not yet know if we are dealing with a denial of pregnancy."
