Iran’s position: President Masoud Pezeshkian has struck a notably conciliatory tone in US media appearances, saying Tehran would like to restore the June ceasefire understanding with Washington before America’s November midterm elections, and stating plainly that it is now up to the US to decide whether the conflict ends. Iranian officials are also said to be discussing a phased deal that would see the Strait of Hormuz reopened in return for Washington easing its economic blockade. Not all voices in Tehran are as emollient, however: a senior military adviser to the Supreme Leader has warned that any renewed US strikes could see the conflict spread to the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb strait, or even the Indian Ocean.

Netanyahu used his UN address to tell Iranians that popular power would ultimately prevail over the regime, framing this as a prediction of political change in Iran, while thanking President Trump for US support and claiming Israel had “crushed” Iran’s military capability a speech that drew protests outside the UN building. Meanwhile the UAE has suspended all Iranian airline flights over US sanctions, Houthi forces reportedly seized part of the Bab al-Mandeb strait and fired missiles at Saudi cities (intercepted by the anti-Houthi coalition), and Qatar has accused Netanyahu of using repeated attacks to distract from his domestic political troubles.

US to hand over centre at Baghdad airport: Iraqi FM
The United States will transfer to Iraq a diplomatic and logistics hub at Baghdad airport that was repeatedly targeted by Iran-backed groups during the Middle East war, the foreign ministry said Thursday.
It said an agreement was signed with the US charge d'affaires Steven Fagin "to hand over the diplomatic support centre affiliated with the US embassy at Baghdad International Airport to the Iraqi government".
The move, it added, was part of efforts to end the US-led coalition's military presence in Iraq, with the remaining troops set to complete their exit by September 30.

Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defence issued a warning on its National Early Warning Platform for Jazan Province, although the alert has now been stood down.
The defence agency said “the danger has passed in Jazan Province,” in a further update on X.

Houthis say targeted Riyadh, Saudi Aramco facilities in yanbu
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis said on Thursday that they had launched missile and drone attacks on what they described as "a sensitive target" in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh and on Saudi Aramco facilities in the Red Sea city of Yanbu.
The statement came after Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis towards the southern province of Taif and Yanbu area on the Red Sea.
There was no immediate Saudi confirmation of an attack on Riyadh or of damage or casualties in either Taif and Yanbu.
