Mamata Banerjee ‘won’t resign’: Meanwhile, a defiant Banerjee Tuesday said that she would not visit the Lok Bhavan to submit her resignation to the governor. “We have not been defeated. I have not been defeated. I will not resign. There is no question of my going to the Raj Bhawan,” she said at a press conference. “In this election, the BJP and the Election Commission played a dirty game. They forcefully grabbed votes.” Banerjee lost to the BJP’s Adhikari by over 15,000 votes in Bhabanipur.

Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, on Wednesday, said democracy in West Bengal was being "held at gunpoint".
In an X post, Pradhan also said the electoral mandates were being treated "less like the people's voice and more like suggestions open to rejection".
"Democracy in Bengal is being held at gunpoint, and the refusal to accept the electoral verdict lays this reality bare. Mandates are being treated less like the people's voice and more like suggestions open to rejection. The refusal of Mamata Banerjee to accept the spirit of the mandate raises a serious question: Is power being treated as a responsibility or merely as an entitlement?" he wrote.
