Vance says no conclusive evidence linking Iran to flydubai attack

US Vice President JD Vance said that he had seen no conclusive evidence linking Iran to the incident.

“In terms of involvement with Iran. That’s something I defer to (CIA Chief) John Ratcliffe and some of the intelligence folks on,” Vance told reporters before leaving on a flight to Alaska.

“I don’t want to get ahead of any announcements there,” he said. “It’s certainly something we’re looking at, but I wouldn’t say I’ve seen anything conclusive just yet.”

Asked whether he is concerned about foreign pilots flying in the US, Vance responded, saying, "Anytime you have any person coming from outside the United States, you've got to be extra careful that that person is actually a good human being and is going to contribute to American society."

He invoked the 9/11 attacks while arguing that the US must be extra careful when allowing people from outside the country to enter.

“That’s the story of the 9/11 terrorist attack — We brought a lot of people into the United States of America who shouldn’t have been here and certainly shouldn’t have been flying planes,” he claimed.

Israel was prepared to shoot down flydubai Flight 1073 with all passengers on board after Captain Smit Machchhar was attacked by his Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami in the cockpit, CBS News reported, citing two Israeli sources with direct knowledge of the matter.

The flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, with 182 people on board, most of them Israelis, was flying along the Saudi-Jordanian border when Captain Smit Machchhar was stabbed by his co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami in an attempt to crash the aircraft, according to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

The report said that after the plane plunged 14,000 feet, the Israeli Air Force tried contacting the cockpit but got no response.

It then activated its long-practised procedure for a potential 9/11-style incident, swiftly convened a pre-established emergency committee, set up a command centre, scrambled fighter jets and closed its airspace.
