Vijay is expected to fly to Coimbatore and take a helicopter to Dharapuram, from where he will campaign from around 1 pm across more than 20 public-contact points covering nearly 40 km. The route will pass through Periyar statue junction, Five Roads junction, Meenakshipuram, Kulathupalayam, Karaiyur and the Vanjiamman temple area. More than 2,000 police personnel will be deployed for security and crowd management, with large crowds expected as Sunday is a holiday. This will be Vijay’s second campaign visit to the constituency after his September 30 rally.

Security guard killed, another injured as iron gate collapses at Nagpur aviation facility
A 46-year-old security guard was killed and another injured after a heavy iron gate collapsed on them at an aviation facility in Nagpur’s Mihan SEZ on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred at Indemar Aviation’s aircraft maintenance and repair project along the runway of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. An aircraft had been brought in for maintenance after developing a technical fault when the gate collapsed as it was being opened. Six security guards were deployed at the facility at the time. Kailas Pundalikrao Chaphekar was declared dead on arrival at AIIMS Nagpur, while Abhishek Sukhdev Sangode, 25, is undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case of accidental death.

AMU students block four gates amid protest for students’ union elections

Newborn girl strangled at MP hospital, police suspect family role

Former Akali sarpanch shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Ludhiana
Divya Goyal reports that Navtej Singh, former sarpanch of Manewal village, was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in Ludhiana around 6 am on Sunday, police said. Singh, who was in his sixties, was driving from Manewal towards his home in Krishna Nagar when the assailants waylaid him near Punjab Agro farm in the Ladhowal area. He was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Gehlot urges Rajasthan govt to prepare contingency plan for ‘drought-like’ situation
Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday urged the state government to prepare a contingency plan to deal with drought-like conditions in parts of the state, warning of possible shortages of drinking water and fodder and lack of employment. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has announced emergency drinking water arrangements and tanker supply till December 31 in low-rainfall areas, along with fodder depots and emergency works of up to Rs 1 crore through district collectors. Gehlot alleged that related orders had not reached the Barmer collector even after three days.

Woman held in Thane over husband’s murder in Nagpur
A 29-year-old woman has been arrested in Thane in connection with the alleged murder of her husband in Nagpur nearly six weeks ago, police said. Deepali alias Bali Vijay Salunke was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship, which had led to frequent quarrels with her husband Gaurav Ragde, 27. Police said she left their home and began living separately. On August 20, Ragde went to meet Deepali and her alleged partner Rishikesh Khode to resolve the dispute. Police said a confrontation followed, during which Khode and two associates allegedly attacked Ragde with a knife near a drain bridge. He later died in hospital. Deepali went into hiding after the incident and was arrested in Thane on Saturday. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to her involvement, police said. She was handed over to Nagpur police for further investigation.
