If I lose 2028, my job is done – Eugene Boakye Antwi sets accountability standard for himself

The NPP General Secretary hopeful, said his position on accountability would apply to him in the same way he believes it should apply to the current General Secretary.
He said he would not expect to remain in office after leading the party into another general election defeat.
“If I sit here today, God willing, on the 3rd of October when I’m the General Secretary of our party and I take the party to the 2028 election, I lose it, my job is done,” he said on Joy News.
Mr Antwi said he would then step aside and allow another person to take over the party’s administration.
“I have to leave the scene quietly and let somebody else come and take the stage. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
His position forms part of his argument that General Secretaries should be held accountable for the party’s electoral performance.
Mr Antwi has criticised the retention of the current General Secretary after the NPP’s 2024 defeat, arguing that previous General Secretaries who led the party into losing elections were replaced.
The NPP will hold its national executive elections on October 3, 2026, with Mr Antwi contesting the General Secretary position against Justin Kodua Frimpong, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena.
