Adu-Boahene investigation followed a predetermined theory – Kwesi Botchway Jnr
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comA member of NPP communications and legal teams, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has accused investigators in the Republic v. Kwabena Adu-Boahene and Others case of pursuing a predetermined theory instead of investigating the facts.
The case involves former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited. They are facing 11 charges, including conspiracy to commit crime, stealing, money laundering, using public office for profit and wilfully causing financial loss to the state over an alleged GHC49.1 million misappropriation. The accused have pleaded not guilty.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, Mr Botchway said the investigation was fundamentally deficient and that investigators had already settled on a narrative before completing their work.
“They conducted a fundamentally deficient investigation and they fed that investigation to the Attorney General,” he said.
According to him, the Attorney General then put the narrative into the public domain before the accused were formally charged.
Mr Botchway said investigators became committed to their original theory even when evidence could have pointed in another direction.
“This wasn’t an investigation in pursuit of the truth. It was an investigation in pursuit of a predetermined agenda they had fed the Attorney General,” he said.
He argued that investigators should have been willing to acknowledge if evidence contradicted the information they had initially presented to the Attorney General.
Mr Botchway said the weaknesses in the investigation had become apparent during the trial, which has been ongoing for about 18 months.
