Baffour Awuah accuses EOCO boss Raymond Archer of abusing state power
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comManhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has accused EOCO boss Raymond Archer of abusing state power in the wake of the incident involving the lawyer and officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office.
Mr Awuah said he was prepared to face EOCO in court and challenged Mr Archer to arrest him if he believed he had the authority to do so.
“And so tomorrow I’m going to court. Raymond should arrest me. My brother, I am ready. He has power. He thinks that he can abuse the power today. It is okay,” he said on Joy News’ PM Express.
The MP also questioned the legal basis of EOCO’s actions, saying the agency needed better legal advice.
“I think that Raymond needs good legal advice at EOCO. It is obvious that he’s not getting it, and that is why he’s writing these letters. They will not fly,” he said.
Mr Awuah further defended people who allegedly helped him avoid what he described as an attempted abduction.
“If people assist me to avoid being abducted, that certainly cannot be unlawful,” he said.
He also alleged that an EOCO official assaulted his colleague, Afuaqua, during the incident.
According to Mr Awuah, Afuaqua suffered a bruised eye and had been advised to lodge a formal complaint.
The MP maintained that the conduct of EOCO officials in the incident was unlawful and said the controversy would ultimately be judged by the Ghanaian public.
“It is obvious that everybody in this country accepts that what Raymond has done is unlawful,” he said.
