Govt explains rejection of Ramaphosa’s Ghana visit request
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comThe Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has explained that Ghana’s recent actions involving South Africa, including concerns over President Cyril Ramaphosa’s request to visit Ghana, were not intended to affect bilateral relations.
He said government’s response was focused on addressing concerns over attacks on foreign nationals, including Ghanaians living in South Africa.
According to him, Ghana continues to regard South Africa as an important partner and remains open to maintaining relations that benefit both countries.
“We continue to hold the South African government and its people in high esteem.
“And we are willing and able to maintain a healthy relationship that will result in mutual benefits for both countries,” he said.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said Ghana believes the South African government could have done more to ensure the safety of Ghanaians and other foreigners affected by the attacks.
He added that Ghana’s decision to facilitate the return of affected citizens was part of measures to support those impacted by the situation.
