Two injured, one critically after crash involving van near Milford Sound

One person has been critically injured and another is in a serious condition following a crash on the Te Anau Milford Highway.

The crash was reported on State Highway 94 near Deer Flat shortly before midday on Wednesday.

St John said two people had been transported to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter after a manager and two helicopters were sent to the crash.

Police said the initial information was that a van had rolled, blocking the road in both directions.

The highway was expected to remain closed for some time and significant traffic had already built up, a spokesperson said.

Anyone planning to travel between Milford and Te Anau is encouraged to delay their travels.
