Negligent driving charge after Hunter e-bike death

A man has been charged with negligent driving over a fatal crash between a ute and an e-bike in the Upper Hunter earlier this year.

About 10.15am on February 17, emergency services were called to Liverpool Street to reports of a crash.

At the scene, police were told an e-bike and utility had collided on the driveway of a property.

The 22-year-old rider of the e-bike was treated by paramedics, but died prior to arrival at hospital.

The driver of the car, a 56-year-old man, was taken to Scone Hospital for mandatory testing.

On September 6, officers served a future court attendance notice on the man for negligent driving (occasioning death).

He is due to appear before Scone Local Court on Wednesday November 11.

Woman charged following alleged pursuit, drugs located

In a separate incident a woman will face court charged following an alleged pursuit and vehicle search in the Hunter Valley.

About 2pm Tuesday September 15, Hunter Valley Highway Patrol attempted to stop an unregistered motorbike on Charles Street, Abermain.

A Toyota sedan then allegedly crossed the path of police before driving away at speed, police said

A pursuit was initiated and continued to William Street where the driver stopped and was arrested after driving onto an unsealed portion of the road.

Police established that the driver was allegedly driving whilst suspended.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman, underwent a roadside drug test that allegedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine. A secondary oral fluid sample was obtained and will undergo further analysis.

During a search of the vehicle, officers seized several items of interest including 19.88g methamphetamine, 0.9g MDMA, and a folding knife.

The woman was taken to Cessnock police station and charged with nine offences, including drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, supply prohibited drug, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and custody of knife in public place - first offence.

She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday September 16.

Inquiries to locate the motorbike and rider are continuing.
