Car hits 'unknown number of pedestrians' in Upper Hutt
· Otago Daily Times Online NewsSeveral people are injured after being hit by a car on Fergusson Drive near Tararua Street, in Trentham, Upper Hutt.
Police said that an "unknown number of pedestrians" are injured, one of them seriously.
Fire and Emergency said two cars were involved and a power pole has been hit in addition to several pedestrians.
Emergency services responded to the crash at 1.45pm. The road will remain shut for at least another hour.
The site is a few blocks from the Trentham Racecourse where Wellington Cup is being held.
Fergusson Drive is blocked and detours are in place for motorists heading to the races.
