Papanui death not suspicious: police

Police say a death in Christchurch yesterday was not of a suspicious nature.

Police were called to a property on Main North Rd, Papanui, yesterday afternoon where a person was found in a critical condition.

"Sadly, despite best efforts by emergency services, the person died at the scene," police said in a statement.

They initially said the death was being treated as unexplained, and a scene guard was in place for a time as an investigation was carried out.

In an update this afternoon police said a post-mortem examination had been completed, adding that "the death was not of a suspicious nature and has been referred to the Coroner".
