Nicki Minaj has praised President Donald Trump following his decision to redesignate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern”.

The designation, announced by Trump on Friday, cites allegations of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria. He blamed radical Islamists for the “mass slaughter”.

The US president stated he would direct the house appropriations committee to investigate the matter immediately.

Responding to the news on her X account, Minaj expressed gratitude for the ability to worship freely in the United States.

The rapper also stated that no group should face persecution for their faith. She urged her followers to be aware of increasing religious violence globally and to pray for those affected.

“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” she wrote.

“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the  President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”

A CPC is a country that shows clear and consistent patterns of religious intolerance, discrimination, or persecution. It is a designation made by the US secretary of state with the president’s authority.

Nigeria was first designated a CPC in 2020, during the last year of Trump’s first term.

The Joe Biden administration later removed Nigeria from the list.
