Bruce Springsteen put his support for Abdul El-Sayed in constitutional terms, telling Instagram followers why he’s backing the Democrat in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race ahead of the November 3 election.

“Dr. El-Sayed is a fighter for our American Constitution, he’s a fighter for our American Democracy, and he’s a fighter against the corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House,” Springsteen wrote. “That’s why I’m in his corner 100%.”

El-Sayed faces Republican nominee Mike Rogers. A win would make El-Sayed the first Muslim U.S. senator. He’s faced attacks over his religion from President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and MAGA supporters, while receiving endorsements from former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Springsteen has repeatedly criticized Trump and Republicans. In this summer’s PBS special, “Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song,” he described his belief in “critical patriotism,” saying loving your country means being willing to “look at it clearly, recognize its faults, encourage it to be a better place.”

Actor Adam Brody, who stars in “Nobody Wants This,” also backed El-Sayed in a campaign video with Swing Left’s Ground Truth. Brody said he was helping elect El-Sayed and win back the House, and voiced support for Medicare for all and keeping money out of politics.
