Rivers State Assembly Makes Fresh Demands from Governor Fubara After Reinstatement

The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward the list of commissioner nominees for screening and confirmation, in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The appeal came during the Assembly’s first legislative sitting on Thursday, following the conclusion of a six-month emergency rule triggered by a recent political impasse.

Assembly calls for appropriation bill reflecting current realities

In addition to the request for commissioner nominees, the Assembly urged Governor Fubara to present an appropriation bill that accurately reflects the present socio-economic realities of Rivers State.

Lawmakers emphasised the importance of aligning fiscal planning with the state’s evolving needs, especially in the aftermath of the emergency governance period.

The motion, which set the legislative agenda for the remainder of the Third Session of the 10th Assembly, was sponsored by the Leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, alongside eight other members.

During deliberations, legislators unanimously endorsed the initiative, highlighting the need for stability, transparency, and responsive governance.

Speaker commends Tinubu, vows cooperation with governor Fubara

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, commended President Bola Tinubu for his role in restoring democratic institutions in Rivers State. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working collaboratively with Governor Fubara under the terms of the peace accord and within the bounds of the Nigerian Constitution.

“The House will work with the Governor and abide by the terms of the peace parley and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the interest of peace and good governance in the state,” Amaewhule stated.

House to review contract awards and revenue expenditures

A statement issued by Martins Wachukwu, Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker, revealed that the Assembly had resolved to scrutinise developments over the past six months.

Particular attention would be given to the award of contracts and expenditures from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Fund, signalling a renewed focus on accountability and fiscal oversight.

Things Wike said about Fubara in recent interview

Legit.ng earlier reported that in a candid interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, addressed his relationship with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, following the lifting of a six-month state of emergency in the oil-rich region.

Wike, who previously served as governor of Rivers State, made several pointed remarks that shed light on the political dynamics in the state.

Wike firmly stated that he had no intention of recommending commissioners to Governor Fubara. Despite speculation surrounding his influence in Rivers politics, the FCT Minister insisted that he would not interfere in the governor’s decisions.
