Zambia’s former president Edgar Lungu has died aged 68, his party confirms

LUSAKA – Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu (68) has died, his political party the Patriotic Front confirmed in a statement released on Thursday.

He had “been receiving specialized treatment in South Africa” for an undisclosed illness, the Patriotic Front said confirming the news.

Lungu served as the sixth president of Zambia from 26 January 2015 to 24 August 2021 when he lost elections to the current President Hakainde Hichilema by a large margin.
