Los Tigres del Norte to Headline Voto Latino’s Rally in Texas Ahead of Midterm Elections

Los Tigres del Norte will bring their formidable spirit as headliners of Voto Latino’s “Ready. Go. Vote.” rally in Texas‘ Rio Grande Valley on Sunday, Oct. 25.

The rally will take place in the outside space of Mustang Lounge nightclub and also feature Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, gubernatorial candidate — and RGV native — Gina Hinojosa, and musician-turned-politician Bobby Pulido, who is hoping to flip the Republican seat for Texas’ 15th Congressional District.

“Voto Latino knows Texas is ground zero for the Latino vote,” said María Teresa Kumar, President and Co-Founder of Voto Latino. “We’ve directly registered close to 416,000 and intend to contact and turnout over 800,000 voters,” she added. “Latinos are on the ballot and we know it. We are a young, growing electorate, and that’s our superpower. From the governor’s seat to the U.S. Senate, and to the House of Representatives, Gina, James, and Bobby are speaking to the issues Tejanos care about, and we’re proud to stand with them in the Valley.”

Los Tigres del Norte have been using their music, and platform, to tackle politics for decades. Recently, they went viral for their special performance at NPR‘s Tiny Desk, which caused producers Anamaria Sayre and Felix Contreras to get emotional as they introduced the iconic band. “Our community is under attack and it’s not the first time,” Contreras said. “You can go back to 1848 when they changed the border. You can go back to after the second World War during the so-called ‘Operation Wetback.’ It takes away our humanity. For as long as I can remember, these gentlemen have been giving us back our humanity. So, I’m sorry, but it’s a really big honor for us.”

The band opened their Tiny Desk set with their defiant number “Somos Más Americanos,” which translates to “We Are American,” and challenges anti-Latino rhetoric in the U.S. Previously, Los Tigres del Norte performed at Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s final rally before Election Day in 2024.

The Valley is home to 665,575 eligible Latino voters, which the organization describes as “a bloc big enough to help Democrats take back the House.” According to the organization, 316,000 Latino voters in the region sat out 2024 election. Voto Latino hopes to change that this year with the “Ready. Go. Vote” rally.
