Rob Reiner Took Son Nick to Conan O’Brien’s Party to ‘Keep an Eye on Him’ Day Before Alleged Murder

· Rolling Stone

Nick Reiner exhibited “antisocial behavior” while at Conan O’Brien’s holiday party on Saturday (Dec. 13), just one day before he allegedly killed his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer, sources tell Rolling Stone.

According to the sources, the Reiners asked if they could bring Nick to the party out of concern for him and to “keep an eye on him.” At the party, the sources added, Nick “exhibited antisocial behavior,” such as staring at people.

TMZ was the first to report that Nick attended the party, with their sources claiming that Nick and Reiner got into a “very loud argument.” The outlet further reported that, in recent months, Reiner and Singer were struggling with how to deal with Nick as he continued to battle mental health issues and alleged substance abuse.

A representative for the Reiner family did not immediately return a request for comment. Nor did a rep for O’Brien.

Reiner and Singer were found dead at their Los Angeles home Sunday afternoon, Dec. 14. Nick, 32, was arrested at 9:15 local time after Los Angeles Police Department investigators “determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide,” and that Nick was “responsible for their deaths.” Nick was booked on suspicion of felony murder and “remains in custody with no bail” as the police present their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Nick had a complicated relationship with his parents and had long battled drug addiction. He first went to rehab at age 15 and spent much of his teenage years rotating in and out of facilities. Several years after getting clean at the age of 19, he co-wrote the semi-autobiographical film, Being Charlie — largely about the relationship between a troubled son and a famous father — which Reiner directed.

One of Nick’s last known public appearances was in September at the Los Angeles premiere of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. Nick was photographed on the red carpet alongside his parents, as well as his siblings.
