IAEA Chief Confirms Iran Nuclear Inspections Will Proceed Under US-Iran Deal
· novinite.comThe head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has said that inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities will take place under the interim agreement reached between Washington and Tehran, despite differing public interpretations of the deal. Speaking to journalists, he emphasized that the arrangement explicitly places Iran’s nuclear activities under IAEA supervision and confirmed that inspections are part of the process, even if their timing remains flexible. “This is going to happen,” Grossi said, while noting that exact scheduling is secondary to the implementation of the agreement.
His comments followed conflicting statements from US and Iranian officials regarding the scope of the deal, which was signed as part of a broader attempt to stabilize tensions following recent conflict in the region. Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, however, described the agreement in strongly political terms, calling it a symbolic defeat for Washington and arguing that regional security should be managed exclusively by Middle Eastern states based on sovereignty and non-interference.
At the same time, European aviation authorities maintained heightened caution over regional airspace, extending advisories for airlines to avoid or carefully assess routes over Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and several Gulf states due to persistent instability and the risk of rapid escalation despite the ceasefire framework. The warnings come as ongoing tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt flight routes, increase operational costs, and force carriers to adjust schedules across the region.
