At Least Five Killed in Shooting Near Youth Center in Germany

At least five people were killed and several others injured in a shooting in the northern German city of Stade on Monday, prompting a major police operation that led to the arrest of two individuals, including the suspected gunman.

According to local authorities, the shooting took place near a youth center in the city's downtown area. “Shots were fired near a youth center in the city center,” a police spokesperson said. The facility is known to provide temporary accommodation for pregnant women and young mothers with children.

Emergency responders, ambulances, and large numbers of police officers were dispatched to the scene as authorities secured the area. Police initially warned residents to avoid Dankersstraße, where the incident occurred, announcing that a “major operation” was underway and urging the public to follow instructions from emergency personnel.

Later in the day, investigators confirmed that two people had been taken into custody, one of whom is believed to be the shooter. Police also stated that there was “no danger to the public,” indicating that the immediate threat had been contained.
