Crisis in Omar Abdullah's NC deepens as Aga Ruhullah quits party, resigns as MP

National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah quits Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in big setback for Omar Abdullah-led party

by · India Today

In a jolt to the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah resigned from the party and his parliamentary seat on Tuesday, compounding troubles as dissident MLAs threaten the stability of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s government.

Addressing a huge gathering in Budgam on his father’s death anniversary, Ruhullah cut his decades-long ties with the party in dramatic fashion. The firebrand leader told supporters he could no longer stand by as the NC backed away from its core campaign promises, including the restoration of Article 370, constitutional rights, quota reforms, and the release of political prisoners.

Ruhullah's exit comes as the NC reels from intense internal upheaval following an October 27 cabinet reshuffle in which Abdullah inducted four new ministers.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
