Delhi Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly creating and circulating a fake AI-generated video showing Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat sexually assaulting a woman. This comes amid allegations that Bhagat sexually harassed a woman journalist during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar.

According to police, the accused, Nadeem Ahmed Ameen, created a manipulated video that was made to look like CCTV footage. It showed a person dressed as a police officer allegedly behaving inappropriately with a woman.

The video carried ACP Bhagat’s photograph, name and designation, falsely suggesting that he was the officer shown in the footage.

Police said the video was circulated through Instagram and Facebook Reels. An FIR was registered, with charges of forgery, public mischief by spreading fake news, and attempt to provoke breach of peace invoked against Ameen.

10th FAIL, RUNS NEWS HANDLE

Police identified the Instagram account used to circulate the video and traced it to Ameen, an independent journalist from Palwal, Haryana.

He was arrested from the Mewat region of Haryana on October 5. Police recovered a mobile phone from him, which was logged into the Instagram account used to circulate the video. The phone also contained content and a photograph linked to the fake video.

Ameen runs an Instagram news handle, which was created in April 2026 and has around 24,000 subscribers. Police said he is a Class 10 dropout and the sixth of seven brothers. His father is a retired government Urdu lecturer.

PROBE INTO LARGER CONSPIRACY

Police said they are investigating whether more people were involved in creating and circulating the video.

They are also probing the source of funding and whether a larger pre-planned conspiracy was behind the alleged attempt to spread the video during the Jantar Mantar protest.

Police said they are identifying other social media accounts allegedly involved in spreading what they described as a false narrative against the Delhi Police and the government.

ACP BHAGAT’S PROMOTION PUT ON HOLD

The arrest comes amid a separate controversy involving Bhagat, who was among 12 DANIPS officers assigned the current duty charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner on October 5.

The Delhi government has since put Bhagat's assignment on hold after he requested that he not take the charge until an inquiry into the allegations against him is completed.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch is probing sexual harassment complaints filed by three women journalists against police personnel deployed during the October 3 protest. Demonstrators at the protest had demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
