Outgoing Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday ducked questions related to his accepting the Deputy Chief Minister post in the new government. On being asked whether he would accept the Deputy Chief Minister post, Shinde said, "Wait till evening..."

While replying to Shinde, Ajit Pawar said,"Sham tak unka samaj aayega, I will take it (oath), I will not wait."

Taking a friendly banter to Pawar's comments, Shinde said, "Dada (Ajit Pawar) has experience of taking (oath) both in the morning and evening."

Earlier in the day, Devendra Fadnavis was unanimously elected as Maharashtra BJP legislature party’s leader, paving the way for his swearing-in as the chief minister for a third time. According to sources, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and NCP’s Ajit Pawar will be sworn in as deputy chief ministers at the ceremony, to be held at the sprawling Azad Maidan in south Mumbai on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
