Tamil Nadu’s evolving electoral picture has taken a sharp political turn as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) continues its strong performance in Assembly trends, with actor-politician Vijay’s father S A Chandrasekhar making an open appeal to the Congress to align with the emerging party.
With TVK leading in 110 of the 234 Assembly seats, the message from Vijay’s camp has added a fresh layer to post-poll conversations around future alignments in the state.
Speaking in a strong political pitch, S A Chandrasekhar linked the Congress party’s current position to what he described as a loss of power and shifting alliances. “Congress has a history and tradition. Such a Congress, why is it diminishing? Due to lack of power,” he said.
He further added, “By supporting some party, they are declining. That power we will give, not we, but Vijay is ready to give. If you get that power, Congress can retain its history. They should utilise this chance.”
The remarks have fuelled discussions on whether TVK is seeking to position itself as a central player in Tamil Nadu’s future political arithmetic.
VIJAY’S POLITICAL JOURNEY UNDER SPOTLIGHT
Chandrasekhar also spoke about Vijay’s long-standing inclination towards public life, linking his political emergence to years of thought and preparation.
“In the last 30 years, he had been thinking that he had to do something for society, for the Tamil people. It was there in his mind. Slowly, he has developed these things,” he said.
With trends favouring TVK, Chandrasekhar projected confidence over the party’s prospects, going a step further in his assessment. “Today, he is going to be the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
MASS CONNECT WITH VOTERS
He also emphasised Vijay’s widespread appeal across different sections of society, describing a strong emotional connect with supporters. “Tamil people loved him not only as a leader. Every lady considers him as her own son. Young people consider him their own brother. Everyone calls him Anna,” he said.
He added, “Old ladies consider him their own son. Some 60-year-old ladies consider him their grandson. He has developed that relationship between the public and him.”
Expressing joy and pride, Chandrasekhar said, "As a father, I am very proud and happy. My wishes to my son,” he said, adding that Vijay’s confidence over the past two years, and his belief that he could become Chief Minister, had been remarkable.
Chandrasekhar also highlighted Vijay’s decision to contest independently, without alliances, calling it a mark of bold leadership. “I think this is a historic success, a historic victory for Vijay,” he said.
As counting trends continue to evolve, TVK’s performance is already reshaping political conversations in Tamil Nadu. Chandrasekhar’s outreach to Congress has now added a new dimension, placing alliance possibilities under the spotlight as parties reassess their positions.
