Out to buy stationery, 11-year-old Delhi girl raped by tailor inside his shop

A 56-year-old tailor allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl inside his shop in Delhi's Sadar Bazaar area. The incident is said to have happened on September 16.

The accused has been identified as Maqsood. According to the police, the girl was out to buy stationery items late at night when he allegedly lured her into his tailoring shop.

Maqsood allegedly restrained her hands and legs before sexually assaulting her. Local residents claimed the girl's mother started looking for her when she failed to return home.

The woman even enquired with Maqsood if he had seen his daughter, locals said. At that time, the child was purportedly restrained with her hands and legs tied, and a piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth to prevent her from crying out.

After the woman left, Maqsood allegedly panicked and abandoned the girl outside the shop. The minor later narrated her ordeal to her mother and the police were subsequently informed.

A PCR call regarding the alleged sexual assault was received on the night of September 16. Following the information, senior officials, along with teams from the local police station, reached the spot, police said.

A case was filed at the Women Police Station of North District in connection with the matter, officials said. The accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody later the same day, they added.
