In a no-holds-barred attack, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of "destroying democracy" through vote theft. He also warned that all of them would soon face a reckoning.

"What has been done to our country is treason; nobody is going to escape," Gandhi told reporters as he camped out at the Akashvani Bhawan during the INDIA bloc’s march to the Election Commission headquarters.

The Congress MP said the Opposition was not merely seeking to counter the BJP but was fighting to save democracy in India. He alleged that PM Modi, Shah and Bhagwat had "hijacked the nation through ‘vote chori’" and that Gyanesh Kumar had helped them.

"We are not only countering them [BJP]; we will destroy them. I have no interest in what the BJP says," he added.

The remarks came amid dramatic scenes during the INDIA bloc march from Parliament Street to the Election Commission office, where Opposition MPs were demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revision. The BJP and the Election Commission have rejected the Opposition’s allegations.

Gandhi and his sister, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were stopped by police near Akashvani Bhawan and the Niti Aayog office as protesters tried to proceed toward the poll panel. After being stopped, the two sat on the road in protest.

"Around 300 MPs wanted to meet the Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two ECs, but we have been stopped here by the police... 300 Opposition MPs want to meet Gyanesh Kumar, but he is scared," said Gandhi.

Several Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and TMC MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O’Brien, were detained during the protest.

During the march, Opposition MPs carried cutouts portraying Kumar in an RSS uniform and raised slogans against the BJP and the poll panel chief.

The Gandhi scion took to X during the protest, tweeting, "Gyanesh it's done bro. Time to resign."

The INDIA bloc had announced the October 6 march as part of a wider campaign against alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Opposition has also accused Kumar of acting unilaterally in decisions concerning the poll process.
