Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort which claimed 10 lives, calling him “the most incompetent Home Minister in independent India” and demanding his resignation.

He said that the incident raised serious concerns about national security and accountability.

Kharge questioned why Shah was not being held accountable for repeated security failures. “In any other state or country, he would have been thrown out of the Cabinet. But he is indispensable because he shares all the secrets of Mr Modi,” he said.

Alleging lapses in national security, he cited Pulwama, Manipur, and other incidents across states and asked, “Whose responsibility is it to protect the borders, Mr Gandhi’s or Mr Kharge’s? It’s his duty as Home Minister.” Kharge said Shah must first resign if there is to be any further discussion on the matter.

In a tweet, Kharge alleged that under Amit Shah, there have been perhaps "so many breakdowns of law and order".

"There has perhaps never been a Home Minister in India whose tenure has seen so many breakdowns of law and order and yet continues to hold office without taking responsibility. This is a complete failure of those entrusted with our internal security," he tweeted.

"And instead of demanding accountability, the BJP’s entire online toolkit is in overdrive diverting and deflecting. The only reason why the HM has not been shown the door is because he has compelling ‘intelligence’ on PM Modi," he said.

Demanding Shah's resignation, Kharge said, "If there is truly nothing to hide, then let the Prime Minister show it. Take action. Hold the Home Minister accountable. Sack him."

Meanwhile, Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil echoed the demand, calling the Delhi blast “a heinous act” and alleging a “clear failure of security,” especially given its location near a high-security zone in the national capital.

“When the Rameshwaram Cafe blast happened here, resignations were sought and accountability was fixed. Now, they too must take responsibility. The Home Minister should resign,” he said.

He added that whether it was a terror attack or a chemical explosion, the scale of the incident near a high-security zone reflected a serious security lapse. He also said that the immediate priority should be ensuring support for victims and their families.
