BJP braces for historic Bengal win in stinging upset for Mamata Banerjee
The BJP has comfortably moved past the halfway mark in Bengal and is leading in over 170 seats. If the numbers hold, it will mark a historic upset for Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress after 15 years in power in the eastern state.

- Early trends showed the BJP opening a sizeable gap over TMC
- The party moved beyond the 147-seat majority mark in leads
- Mamata Banerjee had earlier defied exit poll projections in Bengal
The BJP, which has eyed Bengal for decades, is on course to capture it in what can be called a massive ideological shift in the eastern state. The party has crossed the 147-halfway mark and is currently leading in over 170 seats over Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress's 109 in early leads. Though Didi has time and again proven exit polls wrong, including 2021 Assembly elections, it looks like this time the figures have got it right. If the BJP's lead holds, which at the moment it looks to be, it would be a historic victory for the party and a stinging rout of the TMC that has retained Bengal for 15 years.
