  • Coordination between central agencies and states will be stepped up
  • District magistrates and police chiefs will review preparedness across examination centres

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparations for the upcoming NEET (UG) re-examination, directing officials to ensure the test is conducted with complete transparency, strengthened security arrangements and zero room for lapses.

The meeting comes amid continued scrutiny over the NEET-UG 2026 controversy and concerns surrounding examination integrity. During the review, the minister stressed that shortcomings identified in the earlier examination process must be addressed comprehensively before the re-test is conducted.

Minister asks officials to eliminate gaps in exam process

According to an official statement, Pradhan instructed authorities to ensure that the Re-NEET examination is held in a secure, seamless and foolproof manner under stringent security protocols.

He emphasised the need for maintaining the credibility of the examination process and directed officials to implement corrective measures wherever weaknesses had been identified earlier.

The minister also called for close coordination between central and local authorities to strengthen monitoring mechanisms on the ground.

DISTRICT MAGISTRATES, POLICE OFFICIALS TO BE INVOLVED IN PREPARATIONS

To tighten security arrangements, Pradhan directed that coordination meetings be conducted with District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) across states.

The move aims to improve supervision at examination centres, prevent irregularities and ensure effective implementation of security protocols before and during the examination.

The involvement of district administrations and law enforcement agencies indicates a stronger oversight mechanism for the upcoming re-exam.

STUDENTS FACILITIES ALSO DISCUSSED

Apart from security, the Union Education Minister instructed officials to make adequate arrangements for students appearing in the examination.

He asked authorities to ensure facilities including:

  • Transportation support, wherever required
  • Availability of drinking water at examination centres
  • Essential student support services
  • Smooth entry and management at centres

The minister said security and vigilance at examination centres must remain uncompromised while ensuring students do not face logistical difficulties.

The forthcoming NEET (UG) re-examination is being closely watched by lakhs of aspirants and parents following controversy around the earlier exam process. Questions over fairness, security protocols and institutional accountability have pushed education authorities to strengthen oversight for the fresh examination.

The latest review meeting signals the government’s attempt to restore confidence in one of India’s largest medical entrance examinations.
