A Zomato delivery agent was assaulted by a couple following a dispute over a delayed food order in Vasavi Nagar, Secunderabad, police said. CCTV footage capturing the incident has surfaced online.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Karkhana police station. The delivery agent, identified as Ashish, had reached the customer's address after the food delivery was delayed.
According to Ashish, the delay occurred after the location shared through the Zomato app was incorrect, making it difficult for him to identify and reach the exact address. The delivery agent said he faced difficulties while locating the customer's residence, which resulted in the delay.
The delay reportedly led to a heated exchange between Ashish and the customers. The argument escalated, following which the couple assaulted the delivery agent, according to the complaint.
CCTV cameras installed in the area captured parts of the incident. The footage shows the confrontation between the delivery agent and the couple and has since been circulated on social media.
Following the incident, Ashish approached the Karkhana police station and lodged a complaint against the couple. Police subsequently registered a case and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault.
As part of the investigation, police are examining the CCTV footage and recording statements from the delivery agent and other people who may have witnessed the incident. The police are also expected to verify the circumstances surrounding the delayed delivery and the dispute between the parties.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over disputes involving delivery personnel, who frequently have to navigate traffic, incorrect locations and difficulties in locating customers while completing orders within delivery timelines. However, police will determine the circumstances and sequence of events in this case based on the complaint, CCTV footage and statements recorded during the investigation.
No further details about the identities of the couple or the sections invoked in the case were immediately available.
The investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.
