Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden will meet on the sidelines of the Quad Summit in Delaware, confirmed Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at a press briefing on Thursday. The two leaders are expected to review the India-U.S bilateral partnership.

“It gives the Prime Minister the opportunity to thank President Biden for his pioneering role in strengthening the India-U.S relationship and for the several new initiatives such as the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies which was taken during the time that President Biden has been at the helm in the United States,” Misri added. Modi and Biden last met in person in July this year, when they interacted briefly on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. They spoke over the phone in August after Modi’s visit to Ukraine and Poland. This is likely to be Modi’s final official meeting with Biden, who has announced that he will not be running for re-election.

Agreements related to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and the India-US Drug Framework will also be exchanged during Modi’s visit to the US. Modi will also meet with Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida and Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his time in America.

However, Misri did not confirm that PM Modi would be meeting with former President Donald Trump. Earlier this week at a campaign event, Trump declared that he would be meeting with Modi during the latter’s visit to America. Misri stated that a number of meetings were being fixed but refrained for commenting on any specific engagement.

During Modi’s visit, he is also expected to speak at the UN Summit of the Future and will also meet with other world leaders as well as prominent CEOs, especially in a roundtable to discuss technology.
