Delhi Police candidate, 23, collapses while running during physical test, dies

A Delhi Police recruitment candidate died after falling unconscious following the third round of a race during the Physical Endurance & Measurement Test in Wazirabad. He was taken to a hospital after becoming unwell but was declared dead.

A 23-year-old candidate died after he fell unconscious while participating in the Physical Endurance & Measurement Test (PEMT) for Delhi Police recruitment at DPA Wazirabad in Delhi on Monday.

The deceased, Saurav Kumar, son of Lachhi Singh, was a resident of Neta Nagar village in Salamatpur, with his post office in Uttar Pradesh's Anoopshahar.

According to the Delhi Police, Kumar was participating in the race event at around 9.09 am and had successfully completed the first three rounds. After the third round, he experienced physical discomfort and moved to the side of the track, where other candidates were already sitting.

He subsequently became unconscious.

Ground staff at the venue noticed him and immediately called the ambulance and doctors. The ambulance, which was already stationed at the ground, reached the spot im.

Paramedics administered CPCR to Kumar before he was rushed to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The PEMT was being conducted as part of the recruitment process for the post of constable in the Delhi Police.

Last week, another candidate died during a Physical Efficiency Test for recruitment to the post of Uttar Pradesh Home Guards recruitment in Meerut, reported PTI.

The tests were being conducted in Kailash Prakash Sports Stadium in Civil Lines.

Police said 1,017 candidates appeared for the Physical Efficiency Test. During the examination, several candidates reported health issues.

According to police, 11 candidates complained of ill health during the test. They were given first aid at the venue before being shifted to Medical College, Meerut, for treatment.
