A 45-year-old woman died after a temporary iron structure erected for a Dahi Handi event collapsed on her in Pune, police said on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Salma Salauddin Pathan. The accident occurred late on Friday night when workers were dismantling the iron arch following the event's conclusion.
A portion of the arch suddenly fell on Salma, striking her on the head. The incident was captured on CCTV.
The woman was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Her son is associated with the organising mandal, and her family members have refused to lodge a complaint against the organisers, police said.
They have also requested the police not to register a case on their own in connection with the matter. The family reportedly said that they do not want boys and young members associated with the mandal to face difficulties because of the incident.
An accidental death report has been registered, and the police are looking into the collapse of the structure, an official, cited by news agency PTI, said.
