Two police personnel attached to Bowenpally Police Station in Hyderabad were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding and accepting a 30,000 bribe from a complainant in exchange for official favours.
According to an ACB press note, Sub-Inspector M Kiran Nandita and Police Constable B Vijay Kumar were trapped by the ACB team at around 4 pm on May 20 while accepting the bribe amount.
The accused officials allegedly demanded the money to relax bail conditions imposed on the complainant in a case registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and to extend police cooperation until the case was finalised.
Officials said Constable Vijay Kumar had allegedly already collected 10,000 earlier and was demanding additional bribe money from the complainant.
During the operation, ACB officials recovered the tainted amount of 30,000 from the dicky of an Activa scooter belonging to the Sub-Inspector, which was parked inside the Bowenpally Police Station premises.
The ACB alleged that both officials misused their official positions and acted dishonestly to obtain undue advantage.
The accused were arrested and are being produced before the Principal and Special Judge for judicial remand. The investigation is underway, while the complainant’s identity has been withheld for security reasons.
