Suvendu Adhikari orders fresh probe into 2024 RG Kar rape-murder case

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday announced a fresh investigation into the 2024 rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a case that shook the country.
Adhikari said the government decided to order the fresh probe following a request from the deceased doctor's mother, who is now a BJP MLA.
"Ratna Debnath had written to me, requesting a fresh investigation. After extensive discussions with the chief secretary and a team of experts, I am announcing a fresh investigation under the Special Commission Act, 1952," Adhikari said.
Adhikari also alleged that the police had failed to perform their duty in connection with the case.
Separately, he ordered an investigation into alleged lapses during the cremation of the victim. He also directed immediate action against those responsible for the alleged lapses.
