Mamata loyalist MLA Kunal Ghosh's car attacked with stones, eggs in Bengal's Hooghly

Mamata Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh’s car was allegedly attacked with stones and eggs in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Saturday as he travelled to Serampore for a rally addressed by Mamata Banerjee.

The incident took place in Uttarpara, where a group carrying black flags surrounded the vehicle and blocked its path, according to a TMC leader. The car’s rear windshield was smashed. The attackers have not been identified.

“They attacked my car with stones and eggs and blocked the road. No police personnel were present there,” Ghosh said. He said he was returning to Kolkata to lodge a complaint.

After his car was attacked, Ghosh went to the West Bengal Police headquarters at Bhabani Bhaban to lodge a complaint.

However, he was not allowed to enter the police headquarters, according to party sources.

WHY ATTACKING AND HARASSING US: MAMATA

Mamata Banerjee, addressing the issue, said she and her party members had been placed under house arrest, calling it a “bad sign” for the country.

She claimed that BJP workers had deliberately blocked the route and claimed there was no police presence in the area.

Questioning BJP, Banerjee said that if the party had won the election with public support, there was no reason for it to “attack and harass” her and her party members.

TMC leader Asit Majumdar alleged that the attack was planned by the BJP. Uttarpara BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty called it a “spontaneous response from the public”. Police have not established who was responsible.

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had allowed Banerjee to hold a public meeting in Serampore, subject to a strict cap of 1,000 attendees.

Banerjee was expected to outline the party’s plans for its protest movement against the Election Commission of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming days.
