Kalyan Bainsla's arrest not enough, says Gurugram woman biker after hit-and-run

After main accused Kalyan Bainsla's arrest in the Gurugram hit-and-run case, biker Shivani Chauhan has demanded strict action against others who were in the car that rammed her.

The woman biker injured in an on-camera hit-and-run case in Gurugram has said the arrest of the main accused, Kalyan Bainsla, is not enough and has demanded strict action against him and others present in the car.

Shivani Chauhan, also known as Sia, said an attempt was made on her life and warned that release on bail within days could not be seen as strict action.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday night after recording her statement in the district court, the 27-year-old also responded to remarks by Bainsla's cousin Kamal, who had claimed that she was "playing the victim card". Chauhan said she would stand firm and that those in the car should also be punished.

"There were two other people in the car. They should be arrested as well. They must be punished. If they aren't, such incidents will continue to happen," she said. She added, "If he gets bail in three days, that cannot be called strict action."

Chauhan said she told the court that an attempt had been made on her life and that she could have died. "I have requested that strict action be taken in this case. I have sustained some injuries and the doctors have advised me to undergo an MRI and X-rays," she said.

Replying to Kamal's remarks, Chauhan said, "His followers are saying that I am playing the victim card and doing all this for the sake of followers."

She added, "I contested the municipal election from Kalkaji, Delhi, in 2022. I was the youngest candidate. Everyone in Delhi knows me. After the incident, I didn't want to reveal my identity, but now it has been revealed. I will stand firm for myself. I don't care what their followers are saying. Their mentality is simply flawed."

Earlier, Kamal had told PTI Videos, "The girl is playing the victim card. Kalyan is innocent. They are influencing people to ride bikes at high speed".

Bainsla, 33, and his 34-year-old cousin, who was in the car with him, were arrested on Tuesday by Gurugram Police from Rajgarh in Rajasthan after a two-day search.

Police said that after his arrest, Bainsla tried to escape custody on the pretext of urinating, but fell and was injured. He was given first aid at a hospital. A senior police officer said both accused were produced in the city court.

Police said Bainsla, driving a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, was accused of hitting Chauhan's Aprilia RS 457 from behind on Golf Course Road after allegedly grazing her bike at speed. The car, which is registered in the name of an acquaintance, has been impounded.

Addressing the media, Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the victim had alleged that Bainsla made hand gestures at her before the incident and then tried to kill her. "It can be clearly seen that he deliberately hit (the biker) from the side after an argument the intent was to kill the victim. The victim has also told the police that the intention was to kill her," he said.

Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj said Bainsla faces an FIR and attempt-to-murder charge after scrutiny of Instagram videos and CCTV footage. Police said that after giving an interview to the media, Bainsla switched off his mobile phone and absconded, after which three teams were formed to track him down in Rajasthan.

According to police, a woman biker shared a video on Instagram on September 14, saying she had been hit by a car on Golf Course Road the previous morning. As there was no formal complaint at the time, Sector-56 Police Station registered a case.

After Bainsla's arrest, Chauhan joined the investigation, and on her complaint police added Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 78 (physical and digital stalking), and Section 79 (acts against the modesty of a woman) of the BNS to the FIR.
