A woman and her two lovers have been arrested in Telangana's Kamareddy district for murdering her husband and dumping his body in a lake to make his death appear accidental, police said.
The victim, identified as Chakali alias Gummadi Kashiram (26), was a daily-wage labourer from Hanmajipet village. His body was found in Pachera Cheruvu on the outskirts of the village on the night of October 23.
According to police, Kashiram's wife, Gummadi Savitha (25), conspired with her two lovers, Chintakindi Ramu (26) and Pasupula Santhosh (25), to kill him.
HOW THE MURDER WAS PLANNED
Police said Savitha had allegedly been involved in relationships with both Ramu, a daily-wage labourer, and Santhosh, a tractor driver. She plotted with them to get rid of her husband.
As part of the plan, the three took Kashiram out on the night of October 23 on the pretext of consuming liquor. After he became heavily intoxicated, Ramu strangled him with a nylon rope while Santhosh held his hands to prevent him from escaping.
After killing him, the accused dumped his body in Pachera Cheruvu and attempted to destroy evidence to make the death appear accidental.
HOW POLICE CRACKED THE CASE
Initially, following a complaint lodged by Kashiram's father, Chakali Bhumayya, Banswada police registered a case of suspicious death.
However, during the investigation, the preliminary post-mortem report confirmed that Kashiram had been murdered. Police subsequently altered the case to Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators examined the crime scene, recorded witness statements and analysed technical evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Acting on credible information, police apprehended all three accused from Hanmajipet village on October 30. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the murder.
Police seized mobile phones and other materials used in the crime. A case has been registered under Sections 103 and 238 read with Section 3(5) of the BNS.
All three accused were produced before a court and sent for judicial remand.
