Delhi court revives forgery plea against Sonia Gandhi over voter roll inclusion

The Rouse Avenue Court has allowed the revision petition filed against Sonia Gandhi in connection with the alleged inclusion of her name in the electoral roll through forgery without obtaining citizenship.

The next hearing will be on September 29.

The petition filed against Sonia Gandhi states that she obtained citizenship on April 30, 1983, while her name was included in the 1980 voter list. The petition questioned how her name was included in the 1980 New Delhi voter list.

The petition alleged that Sonia Gandhi’s name was deleted from the voter list in 1982 and questioned why it was deleted.

The petition also questioned how, if she obtained citizenship in 1983, her name was included in the 1980 voter list and on the basis of which documents. It asked whether forged documents were used.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne set aside the order of the magistrate court (ACJM).

The magistrate had rejected the plea seeking registration of an FIR against Sonia Gandhi.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne said there were several legal infirmities in the magistrate’s order. He said the order did not provide the reasons behind the decision.

The development comes at a time when roughly 47 lakh names were dropped from Delhi’s draft electoral rolls, with notices sent to 33.1 lakh voters over unmapped records or “logical discrepancies.”

Last month, the draft roll removed 47 lakh voters from the city’s 1.45 crore-strong electorate, meaning roughly one in three voters in Delhi was removed as part of the Special Intensive Revision of the voter list.

The sessions court said the petitioner could approach the magistrate court again with the complaint seeking registration of an FIR.
