An Infosys employee in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly recording obscene videos of his female colleagues inside a restroom at the company’s Electronic City campus in the city.
The accused, identified as 28-year-old Swapnil Nagesh Mali from Andhra Pradesh, was caught after a female employee noticed a reflection on the opposite door while using the restroom on June 30.
On closer inspection, she found Mali hiding and attempting to record her with his mobile phone. When confronted, the accused reportedly apologised on the spot.
Infosys HR intervened and, upon checking his phone, allegedly found over 30 videos of different women recorded in a similar manner. Despite the severity, the company management allegedly tried to settle the matter internally by asking the accused to apologise.
The situation escalated after the victim’s husband confronted the company and demanded action. Following this, the woman lodged a formal complaint at the Electronic City police station.
Based on the complaint, police arrested Mali. Further investigation is underway.
Responding to the incident, Infosys issued a statement saying, “We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the Company. We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with the law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate as they investigate further.”
“Infosys is committed to providing an environment free of harassment and has a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint related to any violation of the Company’s Code of Conduct seriously,” read the statement.
Back in May, a man was arrested for allegedly recording videos of female passengers on the Bengaluru Metro and uploading them to Instagram. The Instagram page, named @metro_chicks, featured covert videos of women commuting, filmed without their consent.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar confirmed that the accused, a 27-year-old employee in the accounts department of a private firm, was taken into custody after a case was filed at the Banashankari police station. He filmed women during his daily commute and posted the clips online, calling it “an act of perversion.”
