FM college girl self-immolation case: Here’s what actually happened

Bhubaneswar: In the FM college case, the girl student who attempted self-immolation has succumbed to her injuries while being treated at AIIMS Bhubaneswar late last night. Doctors said she had sustained 90 to 95 per cent of burns in her body. She was on ventilator support for 97 per cent of her body functions.

Here is what the girl alleged:

  1. The HOD of Education department of FM College, Sameer Kumar Sahu was asking for favours from her.
  2. He threatened to fail her in exams and lower her grades.
  3. She had reported to the college authorities on June 30
  4. In the complaint letter to her college authorities she had mentioned to take her life if no action is taken against the HOD
  5. The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) was investigating the matter.
  6. The Committee was asked to submit its report within 15 days.
  7. The Committee had submitted its report to the Principal
  8. The girl asked about the matter to Principal Dillip Kumar Ghosh on Saturday.
  9. He replied that the investigation has ended and nobody was found guilty. He said further enquiry is underway.
  10. Disappointed about the findings of the ICC, the girl came out of the Principal’s cabin and set herself on fire.
  11. She was rushed to medical then shifted to AIIMS
  12. After 3 days of battling with life, she succumbed to her injuries
