New Delhi: Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashishtha was suspended a day after he led police personnel to protest outside the Delhi Police Headquarters against the transfer of two officers.

The suspension has been announced in the backdrop of clash between lawyers and police personnel inside the Shahdara police station last week.

Approximately 500 police officers of the Delhi Police, including women officers, assembled at the police headquarters on Monday to protest the reappointment of ACP Vashishtha and Shahdara SHO Arun Kumar.

They also pressed for measures against the lawyers accused of being complicit in the incident, as well as the improved safety of police officials.

The controversy erupted when an advocate was hit by a severe head injury in a fight that took place at a police station.

After the incident, the lawyers demanded police personnel to be misbehaved and for an indefinite strike across district courts. Vashishtha and Kumar were shifted by the police administration on October 28.

A team of police officers presented five demands to the commissioner Anurag Kumar during protest.

The commissioner assured them that their grievances would be addressed. Vashishtha’s suspension was reported on Tuesday, November 3, with sources attributing the action to the demonstration.
