Pennsylvania: Three law enforcement officers were fatally shot dead and two others were critically wounded in shooting at Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris said. Later, the gunman was also shot dead.

The shooting took place just after 2 pm local time (18:00 GMT) in North Codorus Township, York County, about 115 miles east of Philadelphia, when the officers involved returned to the scene of some earlier police work, State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris said.

Governor Josh Shapiro said the officers were responding to a domestic investigation when the gunfire took place. Two injured officers remain in critical but stable condition. The authorities did not release the suspect’s identity and declined immediately to reveal the law enforcement agencies to which the officers belonged.

Shapiro condemned the violence at a news conference and said it was a tragic loss of life. Attorney General Pamela Bondi called the violence against police “a scourge on our society.”
