Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das along with eight opposition political parties has appealed to the people of state, all Left and democratic parties, trade unions, farmers’ organizations, women, youth, students and all sections of society to make the Odisha Bandh tomorrow a success.

According to the OPCC president, the joint opposition party has said that this bandh should be a bandh of the people of Odisha for the dignity and security of women against the misrule of the double engine BJP government.

However, essential services, ambulances, patients going for treatment, etc. will be exempted from the bandh. But a call has been made for a complete shutdown of markets, transport, educational institutions, government offices, courts, public sector enterprises like banks and insurance companies, he informed.

The bandh will be observed peacefully across the state, including the state capital Bhubaneswar and the public are requested to cooperate for this, Bhakta Charan Das appealed.

It is to be noted here that the left parties have called for an “Odisha Bandh” tomorrow with the aim to put pressure on the State government to provide justice for the 20-year-old BEd student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore who died after attempting self-immolation. They also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Balasore Sadar MLA Manas Kumar Dutta.

Besides, they asked the State government to take urgent action against Balasore District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police (SP). The Joint Opposition has said that the rule of law has collapsed due to the disastrous law and order situation in the state, which has endangered the lives and property of the people.
